COMmITTEES

Bone Mineral Density
In addition to the MUST program, ASCP-Pacific also reaches out to the community through the Bone Mineral Density Committee. The Bone Mineral Density Committee is a professional association that provides Bone Mineral Density and Fall Risk screenings at community health fairs. This committee was created in 2012 and is the only committee that is under a National Organization - the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.
Each year, one in every three adults over the age of 65 falls. Falls increase the risk of early death and can cause other severe fractures and injuries. This committee offers a very important service to try to prevent and educate individuals about the risks of falling, osteoporosis, and bone health. Fall risk and bone mineral density screenings are usually done in conjunction to provide a comprehensive screening of our patients' bone health. None of the screenings are diagnostic, but they do allow us to help patients identify potential bone health issues and prevent falls; we recommend the patients we screen to see their physician for a more thorough screening and diagnosis.
